Terms and Conditions for earning stipends when participating in the Transforming Ecology Education to 4D Faculty Mentoring Networks.

Terms and conditions may be revised based on the feedback of participants and the TEE Steering Committee.

To receive your $1000 Stipend, participants must meet the following specific and general requirements.

Specific to the TEE FMNs

  • Visit the dedicated QUBEShub FMN page for specific requirements.

General Requirements

  • Commit to the FMN sessions during the specified period in virtual meetings to work with a mentor and collaborate with other participants around the customization and implementation of the teaching materials that align to the Four-Dimensional Ecology Education (4DEE) Framework.
  • Allow additional time of 1-2 hours outside of the discussions described above for independent or group work on adapting modules and giving feedback on guidelines.
  • Pilot your newly modified resources during the current or following semester and revise as needed (recommended but not required)
  • Participants must submit a product as specified in your FMN you are participating in for final review by their peer mentors or for peer review as appropriate. Submission for publication in Teaching Issues and Experiments in Ecology on a CC-BY-NC 4.0, EcoEdDL, or the QUBEShub* is preferred. For exact dates please refer to the specific FMN announcement posted on QUBES Hub. All copyright belongs to the author. Please note: if the materials contain non-original material, copyright clearance should be secured prior to publication.
  • Submit revisions leading to an approved resource or publication within three weeks of requests for any revisions.
  • Lead a session in one virtual 4DEE showcase.

To receive a Travel Stipend (up to $2200)

  • Participant’s teaching resource must be published in TIEE, EcoEdDL, QUBES, or elsewhere depending on the specific requirements of your FMN.
  • Participants will have up to 12 months from the last date of their FMN to utilize the earned travel stipend and present at an approved conference** to disseminate the 4DEE framework and their module to new audiences.
  • Workshops are the preferred presentation method, but other presentation formats are acceptable if workshop formats are not available.
  • Travel must be completed before July 2025 and reimbursements submitted with itemized receipts within 30 days of the event.

*Publishing in TIEE, EcoEd Digital Library, or QUBEShub

TIEE – this online journal is peer-reviewed and requires submitters to have an assessment piece included in their teaching module.

EcoEd Digital Library – you may submit anything from a poster, to slides, to a full teaching module. Only teaching modules (lesson plans/student materials) will be peer reviewed. Other materials are subject to editorial review. Assessment is encouraged but not required.

QUBEShub – resources uploaded to this site do not go through a peer review process but will obtain a DOI. If publishing here, appropriate tagging of 4DEE and ESA is required, TBD.

**Approved conferences

The purpose of this travel support is to bring 4DEE to new audiences where ecology is taught. This could include other biology communities and other disciplinary communities that do not typically participate in ESA-managed events or opportunities. Proposals will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Participants do not need to have modules published to discuss possible venues and are encouraged to contact the TEE coordinator early by emailing education@esa.org
